ACTION ALERT: We need you to make calls and emails for HB 230 and HB 289
We have 2 pro-equality bills sitting on the House Floor. HB 230 would protect LGBTQ workers from discrimination and harassment. HB 289 would clean up our statutes to reflect LGBTQ couples exist and deserve the same spousal benefits and rights as straight couples.
Without your help, these bills will die on Friday. The entire House, all 60 Representatives, need to vote on them for bill introduction. Then these bills need to be assigned to a House Committee and passed out.
So far, there are NO bills attacking LGBTQ Wyomingites, but we need to make it clear to the House that’s not good enough. We need movement now.
Call and email every House member and tell them to support HB 230, the Equal Act, and HB 289, the Marriage Language Clean-Up Bill. Or leave a message with the House Receptionist for every one of them at (307) 777-7852 and the Online Hotline.
And most importantly, leave a message with the House Receptionist for Speaker Steve Harshman at (307) 777-7852 or on the online hotline. He can bump up our bills on the list and make sure we get a vote on the House Floor.
Here's a handy script to help you:
"My name is [NAME] and I live in [Town]. This is a message for Speaker Harshman. I support HB 230 and HB 289 because LGBTQ Wyomingites deserve to live, work, and raise their families without fear of discrimination. Please tell Speaker Harshman to hear these bills on the House Floor. Thank you and have a good day!"
Students in Gay-Straight Alliance clubs are coming from high schools in Laramie, Cheyenne, and Lander to the state capitol in order to meet with lawmakers. Please help us keep HB 230 and HB 289 are still alive on Friday for our courageous kids.
Thank you for all that you do.
